Tomolly began 18 years ago in a little shop built in the back garden of our family home in Millthorpe, NSW. At the time, we were running two holiday accommodation properties.
One of them was an old chemist shop we converted into a studio, and it was there that something creative really sparked in me. I loved creating spaces that felt like a home away from home. I found so much joy in sourcing thoughtful pieces to style them, things that made a space feel warm and welcoming. The idea of opening a shop of my own quietly grew from there.
After a cup of tea with a dear friend who told me, “if you are passionate about what you do, you will always succeed,” I decided to take the plunge. With Steve’s encouragement, he’s always loved a project, we built a small shop in our back garden. That’s where Tomolly began.
In the early years, I was still finding my way. I was stocking what I thought people wanted, rather than what truly lit me up. But that was part of the journey.
A few years in, I decided to formally study design and colour in Sydney. That time gave me clarity and confidence. It helped me understand my own style more deeply and gave me permission to rebrand Tomolly in a way that felt honest and aligned.
Not long after, another leap came. We moved both our home and the shop to Carcoar. It didn’t make perfect sense on paper, but it felt right, so we trusted that feeling.
Tomolly today is the result of all of those small, intuitive decisions. It’s slower and more considered. It reflects what I truly love, natural textures, grounded tones and pieces made with care.
In 2024, Molly joined me behind the scenes, helping share Tomolly beyond our little village through the online store. But I’m still here, styling the shelves and welcoming people through the door.
After 18 years, Tomolly is still evolving, but at its heart it has always been about creating spaces that feel like home.
