We’re so happy to introduce the makers behind our favourite pottery cups — Good Hope Pottery.
Helen and Danielle are a mother–daughter duo working from their property on the banks of Lake Burrinjuck in the Yass Valley. Their hand-thrown pieces are inspired by the nature that surrounds them — driftwood, clay, and river-worn rocks revealed as the lake rises and falls.
I first came across their work through Instagram, and not long after, I met Helen for the first time in a park in Yass where she showed me their beautiful pieces in person — and the rest is history.
Pottery has become part of their daily rhythm — a quiet, meditative practice filled with care and intention. Every piece is shaped slowly by hand, designed to be used and loved.
As part of our Coming Home to Yourself series, we invited Helen and Danielle to share more about what this theme means to them, how nature influences their daily rituals, and what they hope you feel when you hold one of their cups.
What does coming home to yourself mean to you?
For us, coming home to yourself means taking the time to listen to your own thoughts — to be able to sit with yourself without the interruption of modern-day life. Meditation is a big part of this for us, spending time alone in the quiet of your mind.
Do you have a daily ritual or slow moment that helps you feel grounded?
We do yoga, meditate, and take daily walks around our property and along the shoreline of Lake Burrinjuck. This has brought us closer to nature and also offers time out from our busy minds. We both feel more connected to nature than we ever have. We notice the details of what surrounds us, talk about what we see, and learn as much as we can about it. Mostly though, we are in awe of our surroundings — the bush and the wildlife are abundant.
What do you hope people feel when they use one of your handmade cups?
We anticipate that people will feel the same way we do when using something thoughtfully made — a connection with both the material and the maker.
We hope that holding one of our cups as part of their daily ritual brings them pleasure and a deeper appreciation for the craft and tradition of handmade pottery.
